"My kid could paint that" is the most hopeful sentence in the museum. It means the work has cleared away technique as a barrier — what remains is the idea, the colour, the nerve. Modern art asks for a different kind of looking, and it repays the effort generously.
Abstraction is a language
When painters stopped describing the visible world, they started describing everything else: speed, grief, music, faith. A field of colour can hold all of those if you give it thirty seconds of your attention. Our contemporary corridor hangs works far apart on purpose — each one gets its own silence.
Scale changes everything
Modern artists discovered that size is a material. A painting taller than you stops being a picture and becomes a place. Stand in our turbine-scale installation hall and notice how your body responds before your brain catches up — that physical jolt is part of the medium.
Your reaction is part of the artwork. Bring it with you.
