Three thousand years of Egypt, Greece, and Rome — coffins, bronzes, and the small precious things of daily life, gathered in the dome hall.

Ancient Egyptian artifacts from the Kingdom of Napata
About the exhibition

The deep past, at eye level

Ancient Civilisations brings together the finest antiquities in our care with landmark loans: a painted coffin ensemble, bronze votive figures, mosaic fragments, and jewellery that still looks startlingly modern. Cases sit low so children can see everything, and every label answers the question visitors actually ask — what was this for?

Weekend family workshops let young archaeologists handle replicas and decode hieroglyphs, while the monthly lecture series welcomes scholars working on new discoveries.
